Change of plan – a letter to the world
So, I suppose this is a “lets do it over” post.. it is entirely possible that I will write things about subjects I have no knowledge of, simple and often wrong opinions, but this is me, and the reason for writing it is to collect my thoughts and not to educate people on how things really are.. collection everything

Far from what might be true I have to wonder if the social networking and web 2.0 has actually reduced productivity in companies leading to loss of revenues and fueling the recession.. Obviously there’s far more to it than that but with all the worry of monetizing websites and social media, perhaps we need to [...]

On flicking through this week’s Economist magazine, I noticed a curious “Offer to readers” box that said you could buy reprints of the special report at £3.50 + P&P.. minimum order of 5. Now this isn’t very interesting apart from the fact that the magazine is £4.00 itself, and this special report was maybe only [...]

I hope that sometime soon I can sleep at normal hours again, but as it goes I keep waking up. This time I was staring into the dark kitchen (which is by my bed in the ‘studio’ flat kinda way I live) and .. looking for our “friends”. Right now I have a little bit [...]

What is the point of art without religion? In listening to a talk on the ‘genius of creativity’ I see a slightly theist hint in the wordings, or at least a suggestion of divinity. What gives the ‘artist’ the right to consider themselves a creative, and who’s eyes are these assumptions being judged in? As [...]

I’ve been considering upgrading my machine recently, as a ‘frequent’ computer user, I probably spend a good proportion of my life staring beyond the screen into the OS and doing what I sometimes consider to be .. ‘work’. After switching a few years back from Windows machines I’m pretty much locked into the Apple brand [...]

Being a pro-ish singularitarian, I like to believe, like Ray Kurzweil and others have written, that we’ll all be part robot at some point in the not too distant future. There is a following, with some very high powered executives, futurists and scientists at the core. For example, as written in Bill Joy’s Wired article [...]

the nature of my life and entrapment: The will to move and travel, and the solid realization that I have accumulated such a significant amount of stuff that I’m really tied to where I live for life or at least the near future. But what can technology do to help? In my personal library of [...]

Welcome to thechipfactorylab, a space where I hope to feel free to not worry about being as official with my words, and share a little of what’s going on in my head from time to time. It will hopefully be as much a resource to myself as a use to anyone out there, somewhere I [...]

Working with grace
Is tumblr the new twitter?
These feeds are so easy to embed, why use wordpress?!

I don’t wanna replace my mouse.. But the double click seems broken..
Note to self..
Make an effort to attend as many open source software, web dev, Facebook dev, any dev and design events and conferences, inevitably meet nice and interesting people, sometimes useful people.. After 8 years it’s still important to network, maybe more so now..

We’re at the diner, retro milk!
iphone data open
so sounds like there’s something going on with logging wifi and gps data on iphones and ipads, of course there’s going to be the usual uproar, but you know maybe it’s kinda cool. What could you do with all that location data?
Well .. a couple of fun ideas, how about a real life stumbleupon where you get suggested streets you’ve never been to, or even what’s there that’s similar to places you have been. I guess thats possible without the live GPS tracking, but who really checks in everywhere they go?
I think I foursquare only at restaurants and cafe’s, and the odd techy event because the foursquare iphone app is easier to slap a picture and caption on than a blog or facebook.. that is of course until tumblr came into my life…

So I’m waiting for the wife to come along and go to the gym in town, it’s 10.30pm, there’s a 24hr fitness first right here. Just having a mint tea to kill some time
The Facebook developer garage was interesting tonight, talks on gamification and scaling popular sites by Pop cap and playfish. Very interesting, turning the world into a game and why it needs more consideration than action.
